Benefit Policy for Regular Part-Time Employees
MT. LEBANON PUBLIC LIBRARY
POLICY NUMBER: 10A
TITLE: Benefit Policy for Regular Part-Time Employees
DATE ISSUED: December 18, 2003
REPLACES: Policy of 2/15/2001 and all previous versions
PURPOSE: To describe the benefits offered to regular part-time library employees. To be considered a regular part-time employee, an individual must be scheduled to work for 20 hours or more per week on a regular basis over the course of the year.
STATEMENT OF POLICY:
1. ANNUAL LEAVE
ANNUAL LEAVE (CALCULATED INTO HOURS)
-Total of 10.5 “days” per year, cumulative up to 21 “days”, effective from the first day of employment (accruing on a prorated basis for the first year).
-Total of 7.5 “days” per year, cumulative up to 15 “days”, effective from the first day of employment (accruing on a prorated basis for the first year).
To calculate leave, use the following formula:
-Divide hours regularly scheduled per week by 5, and round if necessary.
-Multiply by the number of leave “days” allowed annually.
-For example, for a clerk: 20 hours per week divided by 5 “days” = 4
4 X 7.5 leave “days” = 30 hours leave
NOTE: An employee loses all accrued leave upon cessation of employment.
2. OTHER INCLUDED BENEFITS
2.1 $2,500 life insurance upon being hired, increased to $7,500 after 1 year.
2.2 Once-a-year longevity pay for the number of years worked, pro-rated on the amount awarded full-time employees, based on the employee’s average work hours per week calculated as a percentage of a full-time work week.
2.3 Option to contribute to a 457 deferred compensation retirement savings plan (this is similar to a 401K, but is the type for municipalities).
2.4 Option to enroll in the municipal health benefit plan. The Library pays an amount equal to ½ of the single rate charged for the Municipality of Mt. Lebanon’s health benefit plan coverage, and the employee pays the difference for the type of coverage chosen by the employee.
2.5 Access to the Employee Assistance Program for confidential advice concerning problems of a health, emotional, marital, family, financial, legal or other nature.
2.6 PaLA membership paid for all librarians
2.7 Support for attending training and conferences as the budget permits.
2.8 Purchasing of books (for personal use or for gifts) at the library’s cost.
Note: The Library Director has the discretion to interpret and apply the policy, which may be amended or revised by the Library Board of Trustees.
